Department of Botany was established in 2043 B.S. after starting the Bachelor ofScience (B.SC.).  Prior to this, the Departments of Botany and Zoology functioned under the Department of Biology which was headed by Prof. Tulashi Man Rajkarnikar. After the establishment of the Department of Botany, Prof. Urmila Karki was appointed as its first head. Many graduates from the Department had gone to serve in prestigious positions across various sectors including governmental sectors, NGOs, INGOs, Universities, Social Fields in Nepal and abroad at different capacities.
Currently, the Department comprises four permanent teaching faculty members and two non-teaching staff. In addition, five retired faculty members continue to contribute their expertise on a part time basis In addition to this, there are three part time teachers who are contributing their best in the teaching and learning activities. The Department is currently headed by Asst. Prof. Deepak Kumar Sharma. The Department is running B.Sc. Four Year Program and the students can specialize in various fields of Natural Science including Ecology, Plant Systematics, Ethnobotany, Biochemistry and Biotechnology.
